The Utah trip!

Okay so here we go I am getting around to blogging about the much anticipated Utah trip! First of all it is a whopping 1710 miles which is about 25 hrs just in driving time. I had feared what this trip would be like. My fears were mostly centered around Gus since it was his first time and he is at the fun stage being 18 months old where sitting down is his least favorite thing to do. But I worried all for nothing. My children are apparently Road Warriors! We only stopped 3 times a day to hit the bathrooms and walk around a little. We even ate all our meals in the car. There was really no fighting, complaining or whining at all. I was so impressed with them. Thank Heavens for DVD players...that is all I can say.

When we got in the car and had been driving for about half an hour I pulled out the classic nerdy parental one-liner "Are we having Fun yet?!?" All the kids clapped and yelled with glee!! Well this delighted Cyrus and about once an hour the entire rest of the first day he kept randomly yelling out "Are we habing Fun yet!!!" He would get a little upset if we didn't all clap and rejoice each and every time. I was glad that he was doing so well.
Near the end of our long trip though, his enthusiasm changed. He started just gazing out the window and asking "Where's Utah?" over and over. Later he sadly said "We are NEVER going to get there." I thought he was going to cry. Taite grumpily replied, "That is because Dad is taking 40 years!" Hilarious. I guess she and Moses can relate to one another.
She also asked me if we were at the Promised Land yet. At least I know she is paying attention at scriptures.

Cy and Taite were full of funny stuff!

At the end of the first day he got really tired, we told him to hold on and kept saying we are almost to the hotel! He said "I need a bed. Find me a bed!" He happied up when we got to the hotel and he ran excitedly into the room. All the kids started jumping on the beds (naughty, I know) but Cy ran straight to the drawers and started throwing them all open, yelling "No! Oh NO!"
What is the matter Cy? "There's no Jammies!! No Jammies!"
I guess he really wanted to go to bed

That night in the hotel was interesting with all of us in one room. We have several sleep-talkers, 2 sleep-walkers, 1 who grinds their teeth, but overall it went very well. I did wake up in the night and noticed that Cy was kind of moaning softly and saying that there was an airplane in the room, he was pointing to the smoke detector light. He had a high fever and I was cuddling with him while Matt went to get some medicine in the car. Cy had his favorite "Cars" water bottle in his bed with him and it had spilled. I said, "Uh oh, its wet."
He says, "Yeah, I made a car wash."

As we were driving Taite out of nowhere says "Hey Dad! I have exciting news for you....I am always going to be your girl!" How cute is that.

Later Ellery and Bailey were discussing how they liked being athletic. Taite proudly announced "I am VERY affletic!"
Cyrus chimed in and said "I am affletic....I think."

The only fight that we did have was Cy and Taite, with Gus in the middle arguing over who's baby he was. He's mine...No he's mine. He's my baby. No he is MINE! Finally Taite said...actually he is Mommy's baby!
That is RIGHT!

While watching Monsters Vs. Aliens Taite said to her sisters "We have a Susan in our car." If she meant me, she is going to get it. She did refer to everyone as "Cutie Face" so that was nice, it almost made up for referring to me as Susan aka Ginormica!

The DVD player died with over 10 hours left in the car. Music and chatting became our entertainment of choice. Ellery & Bailey wanted Led Zeppelin, Bailey and Cyrus were all about Lenny Kravitz and Taite is my country girl with lots of Carrie!

Gus would get a little grouchy after he would wake up because it wasn't a real nap and none of my children have been "car sleepers" at all! We had a simple solution for his orneriness...suckers. The kid LOVES suckers, pop one of those in his mouth and we were back to happy Gus!

This is what we arrived to! Ah, it is great to be back!

Ok, seeing all of your kids in a vehicle together really brings home just how much you have on your plate! Sister you are busy!

With that being said, you are SO good at it! You are amazing! I have loved seeing you being a mom to so many cute little kiddos. You can just see in their little faces how happy they are! That is because you are their Mommy! You are simply amazing!
